Been a few weeks since I made cookies. Probably because I spent the entire month of November making cookies — for 115 hours! — so that I didn’t want to even see any for a while. But we’re back and these are a cute little surprise for January. Buttons! And peanut butter! I like peanut butter, but don’ *love* peanut butter (that is likely the German in me — not a big thing in Germany) but the peanut butter is more like frosting in this case so lighter and fluffier. Sort of like an oreo, only a million times better.
Cookies
Christmas Cookies. Weihnachtsgebäck. It’s actually what I am most “famous” for. For those who don’t know the story, every year I bake thousands of Christmas Cookies over a three week or so period (this year it was around 6000, over 19 days — 115 hours in total). There are 19 types this year, 17 of which are “standards” and a few new ones to try out.
The recipes have all been on this site for a number of years, and they are scattered through many entries. I thought that it might be helpful for people who want to make their own cookies and are searching for the recipes to have them all in one place, so here are all the links. Happy Baking!
These might be my new favorite chocolate chip cookies. I know, I know, I likely said that at the last batch of chocolate chip style cookies that I made, but these add in two of my other favorite flavors: espresso and coconut. And they are the perfect thing on this chilly and blustery Friday afternoon. Time for some hot chocolate to go with them too!
Ahhhh, the humble snickerdoodle. The quintessential american spice cookie — perfect for autumn — with the funny sounding name. I jazzed these up a little by adding cinnamon chips. If you can’t find cinnamon ships, white chocolate chips (or even better, the mini-chips) are good too, but I would stay away from regular semi-sweet chips, because then really … you’re just making a chocolate chip cookie. Heavy on the nutmeg and cloves, skimped on the cinnamon a bit in the batter (because of the chip inclusion)… these are very tasty. Definitely a good addition to the Halloween Party snacks!
Moose Track Cookies. I’m not sure exactly why I was enticed to make these. It’s turned to autumn here in the Northeast, and with that, all the pretty leaves. That makes me think of Maine (here I come next two weekends!), and somehow the fall makes me think of moose too. And Maine makes me think of Gifford’s Ice Cream. They have a Moose Tracks Ice cream that these cookies are sort of modeled after: vanilla with fudge swirl and chopped up peanut butter cups. I think other brands have this flavor too. This is a very stream of conscious type of post, but that is how it goes. Happy moose (track) watching.
