So, how does one take a chocolate cream pie to a picnic, when you don’t have a table, it’s windy and sand is going everywhere and there is no chance that you will be able to “slice” it? Why, you make it in jars. Mason jars will do the trick, as so these Weck jars. Perfect way to end a meal on a beach!

Yup, I’m back again with another one of my slightly off-kilter flavor combinations; this time smoked bourbon. How do you smoke bourbon, you ask? Well that is actually a tough one, but this actually uses just a little bit of smoked sea salt AND bourbon, which doesn’t make them taste particularly smokey. Or salty. Or all that bourbon-y really. But they do have a nice, warm almosty sweet earthy flavor. And they are crispy (which is from adding alcohol to the cookie dough. So if that is your thing, get to baking!
Another quick to make recipe for all you blueberry fans out there. And you don’t even need to have the actual berries in the house because this recipe uses blueberry jam. very pantry friendly and comes together in about 15 minutes. Plus a baking time of 40 minutes or so, you can have these waiting for guests to arrive in a scant hour. Blueberries and chocolate aren’t a combination that I would naturally think of, ut seeing white chocolate isn’t really chocolate per se, it ended up quite lovely.
I’m all about the unique flavor combinations and this cookie falls right in that category. Orange and Walnut? Sure. Orange and Chocolate? A classic. Throw in some sea salt? Hmmm. Now we’re getting a little stranger. Add them all together? Brilliant. Worked out really well and I am pleased with the experiment. Don’t worry, they aren’t all that salty, but the salt does bring out the other flavors. Yum.
I’m often asked if I can “adjust my recipes” for people to make them “gluten free”. Well, unfortunately not. It’s not quite so easy, and because I am not a celiac, I don’t really have a reason to eat GF. I actually have very strong opinions of eating gluten free, but will save those for another day. At any rate, there *are* recipes that are naturally gluten free. This is one of them. Made of cashew butter, eggs, brown sugar, baking soda and chocolate chips, there is no wheat-based flour to be found. They are yummy, but a little on the crumbly side. Nevertheless, a good snack.
