Nuts about You Chocolate Trio:
Spiced Pistachio, Hazelnut Crunch and Maple Walnut Truffles

So, this weekend is a special weekend in the CSPS world. It was this weekend (yesterday, to be exact), six years ago, that the Foodie World of Cup of Sugar :: Pinch of Salt came to be. 2010 had been a fairly crap year, I’d spent most of January 2011 hiding in my kitchen making comfort food and then the inspiration came: why not make “something” of this. Of course, I had no idea that that something would turn into sharing all my experiments with you all, but here we are, six year on. Almost 1300 recipes. But who’s counting.

So, in honor of this little blog-o-versary (lame, I’m making up words again), I made some chocolates. They say that I am nuts about you. Because, I’m kinda nuts about you. Really. 🙂

Secret Kisses Snowball Cookies

Continuing the Valentine’s Day theme … Two types of Christmas Cookies that I often make are both Snowball Cookies (aka Russian Tea Cakes or Mexican Wedding Cookies, they have lots of names) and my Walnuß Kardamom Schneebällchen (similar cookies as normal snowballs, but with Walnuts and Cardamom). Perfect for your special someone.

Turkish Coffee Shortbread Hearts

Switching gears to something sorts of Valentine’s Day like. I think that I say this every year, but I have a love-hate relationship with Valentine’s Day. Well the reason that I might like it a little is that it is an excuse in the middle of the winter to make lots of cookies, chocolates, truffles and the like. And what the heck, you might as well have a theme. So I figured I’d start now, in case anyone wants to use these recipes for their own creations.

Double Chocolate Coconut Birthday Cake, with a Mountain of Malt Balls

I’m not very good at making cake. Well, at the actual *baking* of the cake, I am ok, but I am not great at decorating. Much better at cupcakes. 🙂 But, once per year, I do actually make a cake, and seeing the combination of chocolate and coconut is one of my favorites, I decided to make this one here. The Mountain of Malt Balls is to hide my not-so-pretty frosting job.

Coconut Chocolate Chip Florentines

OK, so these cookies aren’t *really* florentines — those super thin and crispy cookies that are almost like lace, but these are oh so good nevertheless. Sort of a combination of a regular chocolate chip cookie and a florentine. And super coconut-y as well. These may just become one of my standard “go to” cookie as well as they are really fool proof to make.
