Blueberry Boy Bait … yep, that is what this is called. 🙂 Silly name. Yummy cake. And if only it were this easy to catch a boy …
Anyway, I’m not sure this isn’t just some made up story but here is how it goes. Back in the 1950s, a 13 year old girl entered what is now called the Pillsbury Bake Off Challenge with this recipe. Dozens of variations exist, but this is the one that I have made over the years. A simple cake with a sugar-crust top and no frosting. The young lady won her age group with the recipe and when asked by it was called Boy Bait, she apparently replied “because all the boys come a’askin'”. I hope they were referencing the cake not for dates, but you know, whatever. I don’t think Boy Bait works 70-something years later, but I’ll let you know! 😛
