How to: Perfectly Hard Boil a Quail’s Egg

It’s getting toward Easter time in a few weeks, so I thought I would try coloring some quail’s eggs. First, I had to figure out how long to cook them:

Fill a small saucepan two thirds full with water and bring to the boil.
Fill bowl with freezing cold water and add ice.
Add the quail’s eggs using a spoon. Do not overcrowd the pan.
Boil for 3 minutes and 15 seconds.
Remove with a slotted spoon and plunge into the ice water bath to stop the cooking.

Decorate as you normally would decorate a chicken egg. Or make deviled eggs. Or add to salad. Or whatever.
